Fine Arts
Drama: Each year the secondary students of BCS presents a major drama. They presented the drama "Joseph of Ariamitha" in November, 2009.
Speech: The students at BCS have the opportunity to hone their public speaking skills through regional, state, and national competitions. Speech is also a required course for graduation from Bethel. The American Heritage Speech Competition was introduced in 2008. Students in grades K5-12th grade prepared and delivered first person speeches of Americans up through 1869.
Elementary Music: Mrs. Karen Hupp instructs our elementary students in music. The classes meet twice a week. She also teaches private piano at BCS.
Vocal Music: Under the direction of Mr. Steve Kohnert, BCS provides our students with a program that promotes excellence along with honoring the Lord through their singing. In 2007, the BCS Choral Group placed first in state competition and moved to the nationals with a third place finish.. The school has elementary, junior high, and senior high chorales. The senior high choir has recorded CD's with Harvest Music in May, 2004 and 2005. The choir was selected by Bryon Foxx to record gospel songs that were distributed to over 600 churches.
Instrumental Music: Playing in the Army Band for twenty years has prepared Mr. Steve Kohnert to provide a direction of excellence in our instumental program. The school offers beginning and intermediate bands, a senior high band, and private instrumental lessons. The senior high band has placed first for the past four years in ODACS State Competition, and represented Virginia at the nationals where they placed 2nd in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, Bethel's band, large instrumental and small instrumental ensembles placed 1st. Samantha Whitlock placed 3rd in violin. Mrs. Whitlock directs the begiining and intermediate bands.
Private Lessons: Ross Whitlock and Lois Whitlock are also involved with our music program by giving private lessons with the stringed instruments.
