Pastor Kohnert trusted Christ as his personal savior in 1981 and continues to claim the truth of Romans 6:23 as a constant manifestation of God's grace in his life:  "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Since September of 1999, Steve has served as the Minister of Music for
Bethel Baptist Church and Chairman of the Music Department for Bethel Christian School.

Under his leadership, the school’s choir, band, and instrumental ensembles have won state and national competitions sponsored by the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools and the American Association of Christian Schools.  He is committed to using his experience in the field of music to effectively and enthusiastically train young people to serve in their local church through music ministry opportunities.

As an assistant pastor, Steve also provides oversight with the Deaf Ministry, Military Ministry, and Vacation Bible School.

Pastor Kohnert has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from Georgia State University, and a Doctor of Ministry in Music degree from Covington Theological Seminary.  He has also studied theology at Bethany Theological Seminary and through courses of the Moody Bible Institute.  He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Sacred Ministry program at Northland Baptist Bible College.  He is retired from the military, where he served over 20 years as a trombone player in Army Bands.

Pastor Kohnert and his wife, Monica, who was born and raised in Colombia, South America, were married in 1985 and have two children, Natalie and Nicolas.  Natalie is currently attending Maranatha Baptist College in Wisconsin, and Nicolas is a student at Bethel Christian School. Monica teaches Anatomy, Biology, Life Science, and three levels of Spanish at Bethel Christian School.
